Cheap Home Decorating Ideas – 3 Reasons To Understand The Color Wheel – Color Matters
7 September 2010 by admin

A color wheel is an nonfigurative organization of hues around a circle, showing relationships between colors considered to be primary, secondary, tertiary colors. You want harmony with your schemes. Harmony can be defined as a amusing arrangement of parts. Color harmony is amusing to the eye and can create a equilibrise of visual experience. If it is not harmonious it could be boring or to wild to look at and you being satisfied with in your end result. Color harmony has visual interest and order. One thing that is important when you are choosing you paint colors is to determine what the room will be used for. That stated if it is a room you will be only using off and on during the day you could be a tiny more daring and select colors with less harmony if it pleases you.
When you are choosing colors for a living room or kitchen I would state to still to colors with harmony. Color is the quickest and most affordable way to create a completely new look in your home. Using bright colors in a room can be very stimulating while whites and beige can be very calming and relaxing. Personally I love bright colors and I have been known to go against the color wheel and be bold. I guess this a lot about my personality but if you have a hard time choosing colors you might want to stick to the color wheel because it will not lead you wrong.
When choosing colors for your trim I select to stay with a trim white but you can also go two or three shade tiny than your surround paint. Crown molding really makes your room. Install crown molding and learn how to make the cuts and install it yourself. I have also started using colors in my rooms for the ceilings that are two or three shades lighter than my walls. This really works well for the higher ceiling because it adds warmth to the room. The three different colors on the color wheel are listed below. Select your colors wisely as not to have to do more than once. Cheap home decorating ideas are good but you do not want to be doing it over. Colors on opposite sides of the color wheel go together in harmony.
In color theory, these are the 3 pigment colors that can not be blended by any combination of the other colors. Different colors are derived from these 3 hues:
PRIMARY COLORS Red, yellow and blue
SECONDARY COLORS Green, orange and purple are colors formed by mixing the primary colors.
TERTIARY COLORS Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green and yellow-green.
The three main reasons to comprehend the color wheel are:
1. To have colors that are amusing to the eye.
2. You do not want to be doing your paint job over to swiftly and with paint being the cheapest way to spruce up a room your time and fag are worth something.
3. Understanding the color wheel will help you get paint harmony in your home and make it a amusing place to call home, and having someplace to call your special retreat at the end of the day can change your hole attitude.

Home Decorating for the Independent Personality

Putting your personality into your home is the ideal way to make it a home. Whether you’re using your own muse or someone else’s place yourself into everything you create at home for a resting life experience.
One of the first things I realized about home decorating-after my three thousand or so attempts at making my place look like all the photos from the magazines-is that home decorating should reflect your individualized style. Your home should reflect who you are and what you love.
Of course, I’m not saying that this revelation made me prance around my home with two cans of pink and yellow paint or that I plastered bunnies and butterflies everywhere-and yes, I do actually love pink, yellow, bunnies and butterflies-but I did place a tiny bit of myself into each room.
I got a certain sense of individualized satisfaction from painting my unsightly orange countertops a vibrant country red that matched my lust for life and the décor I actually wanted to toss around my kitchen. And my own individualized works of art-paintings, photographs, sculptures-are set up around my place as well, giving it just that look of being lived in by somebody who adores and experiences life.
Of course, I recognize that we can’t all spend our evenings splashing around in water colors, or spend our weekends chasing a gaggle of baby quails about the yard trying to take their pictures.
That’s why there are professional designers out there who dedicate their lives to creating home décor that other people can use to express themselves and their individuality. And it’s okay to purchase your curtains and blankets if you don’t know how to sew-crafty as I am, I still bought all my curtains and most of my blankets.
Of the things I love most in my home, my furniture doesn’t even come close to counting. It’s the accessories in my home that make it look like I personally live there and that no one else can shake my individuality.
One of my favorite items is a cotton area rug I recently bought on a trip to the Deep South. This area rug was handmade in mills in the Deep South, where the cotton was picked fresh, milled in a southern mill, cleaned, spun and woven all by the same family of rug makers. When the bed is too hot at night, I frequently sleep on this rug and it makes me feel like I’m back in the Deep South all over again.
I realize that area rugs are not for everyone, but it can be an excellent place to begin in learning to develop a personality for your home that meshes with your own personality rather than clashing and making you feel uncomfortable in your own home.
Different types of accessories are truly the way to bring out your personality in your home. Whether it is an area rug, artwork, photographs, drapery, throw pillows or knick knacks that represent different moments in your life, you can always find a way to make yourself feel at home if you just place a tiny bit of yourself into your own home.

Apartment Decorating
In today’s economy everybody is spending less, but wanting more. So how can you get your apartment to have that “Designer look” for less?
First, DIY or Do it yourself. You can save tons of money with your home decorating projects if you can do it yourself. Visit your local book stores or library and you’ll see hundreds of books on home decorating ideas and do-it-yourself projects.
Start collecting design magazines and clip out the photos of rooms you like. Study your pictures, notice the different architectural features like windows, fireplaces, recessed ceilings and decorative crown mouldings in the space.
Also note the different furniture styles used within the space, window treatments, upholstery fabrics and floor selections. Study the lighting that was selected, rugs and home décor accessories. Ask yourself, what did you like most or least about these?
Keep a decorating file on hand to inspire and delight your creative senses. Take the photos with you when you go shopping to keep you on track with the style you are searching for.
Take a trip to your local Lowe’s and Home Depot stores to see all the DIY books and magazines they carry to help you get started. They also have special classes to instruct you how. DIY doesn’t sound so scary now, right?
Second, begin with one room and third, stick to your budget. Sounds easy? Well, in fact it’s easier than you think. I think what really hangs people up is that they are overwhelmed by the magnitude of the project. That’s why I state begin with one room. It’ll be much easier on the budget.
Did I state “budget”. Don’t fret. It’s not such a dirty word. And in this tough economy, even the rich have a budget. You can decorate these days on a very tight budget. It’s just learning how to be smart and creative.
(I would like to inject at this point that if you are considering on hiring the help of an expert instead of doing it yourself, make sure to ask the expert for referrals of customers they have helped in the past. Hire only reliable, reputable contractors and ones that guarantee their work. Get a contract in writing. I am not responsible for who you hire. Do your homework!)
However, if you are going to do this yourself, and YES YOU CAN, you will need to evaluate your budget, which will be determined by if you are doing the whole apartment, or room by room.
Other factors to think about to stay within your budget are the size of the room, the design theme or style you want to achieve, what needs to be replaced or repaired, and furniture, fixtures or accessories you will need to purchase.
Apartment decorating is fun and exciting. You can make any home spectacular, inviting and comfortable, no matter what the size. So let’s get started. First, examine the room you will decorate and determine what it is that you like and don’t like about the space.
Now think about your individualized style you would like to achieve in the space. If you’re not sure what your individualized decorating style is, shop a few furniture stores and designer showcases in your area. You will get lots of home decorating ideas this way.
They group comfortable settings together called “vignettes”, pronounced “vin-yets” in different styles. This will help you determine the styles you like and don’t like. You’ll begin to affirm what strongly appeals to you and what doesn’t. And what you would like to incorporate into your own space.
Now, ask yourself these questions:
What do I feel most comfortable in? Do I like formal or informal? Casual or elegance? Traditional or contemporary? Your individualized style is an expression of who you are, what you like, your tastes, your moods, your life experiences, travel, education and so forth. It shows YOU, by way of color, texture and style, just by what we display in our spaces.
Color is another bourgeois to think about in your design theme. You’ll want to pay close attention to what colors excite you and make you comfortable, happy, or even sad. Are you drawn toward warm colors like reds and yellows? Or cool colors, like blues and greens?
Besides the furniture stores, you can also get great home decorating ideas by surfing the Internet. With just a easy click of your mouse the world of decorating is opened up to you. You can get decorating ideas, hire experts, get DIY project ideas and buy the products you want, all through the astonishing world of online technology.
You’ll be simply astonished at the many online stores that cater to your budget. From flooring, walls and windows, to window treatments, furniture and accessories, you’ll get tons of great ideas, as well as great prices you can afford, to begin your journey on your apartment decorating.
Cost Slicing Ideas
To get the ideal deals and stay within your budget, shop these places:
Craig’s List, Ebay, Amazon, Overstock, Second-hand stores, consignment shops, garage sales, flea markets, auctions, friends that throw stuff out, garbage bins (yes, it’s astonishing the “new” stuff that is thrown out each day!)

Save Taxes By Claiming A Home Office Deduction
5 September 2010 by admin
Categories: Home Improvement
According to the IRS, the majority of American taxpayers working from home do not claim a home office deduction even though they’re entitled to it. This is because they are unfamiliar with the rules governing the deduction and they are wary of its record-keeping requirements. They are also afraid of being audited by the IRS, which commonly scrutinizes taxpayers claiming the deduction in order to deter underreporting of income by small businesses. However, as long as you are following the rules, your home office deduction should not give you any reason for concern of an IRS audit.
Determine your home office space
The part of your home you designate as your office must be used “exclusively” and “regularly” as your principal place of business, or as a place to meet with patients, clients or customers. However, there are 2 exceptions to the “exclusively” rule: (1) you are a eligible daycare bourgeois using part of your home as a day-care facility, or (2) you use a portion of your home for inventory storage or product samples.
“Usually” is not the same as “exclusively”
“Exclusively” for business means you must use your home office space only for business all the time. You or your family can't use the designated area for recreation purposes whatsoever; otherwise you are not eligible to take the deduction.
Principal place of business
Principal place of business means using your home office exclusively and regularly for administering or managing your business, such as dealing with and billing customers, clients or patients, as well as record-keeping and writing reports.
Calculate the business percentage
There are two ways you can compute the business-use percentage of your home. The first method is to divide the square footage (length x width) of your home office by the total area of your home. The second method divides the number of rooms used for business by the total number of rooms in your home. In order to use the second method, the rooms in your home must be approximately the same size.
Expenses you can deduct
You can fully deduct the cost of painting or fixes that pertain only to the business part of your home. You can deduct utilities, insurance, depreciation (if you own your home), rent (if you are paying rent), general repairs, and your security system based on the business percentage you calculated. You can also deduct real estate taxes, mortgage interest, eligible mortgage insurance premiums, and theft and casualty losses based on your business percentage, but these deductions are acquirable to you even if you do not claim a home office deduction.
Home office in a structure not attached to your home
If your home office is in a separate structure not attached to your home, it does not have to be your principal place of business. However, it still must be used exclusively for business.
Home office deduction for employees
If you’re an employee working from home, you can claim the deduction if the exclusive and regular use of your home office is for the convenience of your employer. If you are renting part of your home used for business to your employer, then you are not granted to take the deduction.
Report your deduction correctly on Form 1040
Self-employed taxpayers can use Form 8829 to determine their home office deduction and then report it on Schedule C, line 30. On the other hand, employees must itemize their deductions on Schedule A in order to claim the home office deduction and all other employee business expenses.
Maintain good records
Keep receipts and all other supporting documents of expenses relating to your home office. This includes documents to substantiate your home’s depreciable basis, such as buy price, date acquired, and any improvements you made. You should keep your records for at least 3 years from the date you filed your tax return.
Take photographs
Take date-stamped photographs of your home office apiece year just in case you are audited. This is because you might claim the deduction on this year’s tax return but five years from now you might not even live in the same home. Date-stamped photographs will help you demonstrate to the IRS that you eligible for the deduction in the year it was taken.

Simple Home Decorating Tips Anyone Can Use

Every homeowner has the constant desire to want to create a presentable environment in their house. It is only natural – if you make such a massive investment as a house, you should maintain it to the ideal of your abilities. Using simple techniques to decorate your house, you can increase the aesthetics by a large amount. It can be very costly to hire a professional home decorator, and it is quite frankly unnecessary. Professional home decorators are simply people who have learned to spot certain fundamental truths about home aesthetics. So if you feel the need to decorate or redecorate your home, you should think about all of the following aspects.
The first step to home decorating is having tasteful furniture and accessories. This doesn’t mean you have to purchase a ridiculously costly set from a furniture store. You can do with thrift store goods if you’re careful. When you first begin picking (or replacing) your furniture, you should decide on a certain theme that you want to stick with. You can purchase furniture that is mostly made out of wood. If you purchase a can of wood stain from your local home improvement store, you can magically match all of your furniture when previously they absolutely contrasted apiece other. Alternatively, you might decide to go with a modern theme, or any other number of themes and sub-themes used by decorators. You can get ideas from decorating magazines, stores, or homes of friends.
Once you’ve got your furniture and accessories all generally matching, you can think about your walls and carpets. Of course, this stage of the decorating depends on how much you want to overhaul your home, and how much you are willing to spend in time and money. The fact of the matter is, your carpet and walls are most likely not the ideal match for the rest of your house, since the builders of your home could not have known what sort of furniture you would have. Painting the walls is a relatively simple project, and you can do it in a weekend if you plan it out right. A tastefully-colored surround can lend a lot of aesthetic value to your home.
The hardest part of decorating your home is noticing small touches that you can make to lend to and improve the overall mood and theme of the house. The reason it’s hard is that you can’t examine any specific aspect of your home and figure out how to change it for the better. Instead, you have to look at the huge picture and creatively envision things that you could be doing differently. If this doesn’t come naturally to you, then you can use many different sources as inspiration. But a few magazines next time you’re at the store, and look at the rooms pictured within. Most of them have likely been designed by professionals. You can look for the small details that give the room its great style, and figure out ways to apply the same thing to your home. Just make sure that the small details fit the color scheme and style of your overall decor.
The lighting of your rooms is also a very important aspect. When you have a very well-thought-out furniture layout, and specific decorations everywhere, usually the default lighting layout will not suffice. Think about changing the lighting to a different part of the room to change the focus. Think about putting a lamp on a plateau or even a track lighting system on the ceiling. There are many different options, and if you select the right one then you can masterfully focus the attention of visitors to the parts of the room that you want them to be looking at.
Home decorating is never simple or quick, which is why so many people are tempted to spend a lot of money for professional advice. But before you do that, find out what exactly you are capable of, and see what you can do for your house.

The last thing you want is the inconvenience of having to repackage and send the plateau back because you didn’t take proper measurements.
The material of the plateau is also important, as you can select from glass, wood, stainless steel or even different combinations of them. When choosing a table, you want to be sure that it will match the rest of the furniture in your home. Matching tables and chairs can really improve the overall look of your home so be sure to spend extra time when deciding on a set.
The same applies to all other rooms in your home. Massive bedroom furniture takes up a lot of space yet it’s surprising what you can fit in if you plan ahead – visualise the room, or sketch it out and work out a plan. What’s the priority? a massive wardrobe, a dressing plateau or chest? A kingsize bed with bedside cabinets? A mirror can add the illusion of space and is great for brightening dark rooms.
When selecting your bed go for the ideal you can afford. You spend almost a third of your life in bed – make sure you are comfortable. How To Claim A Home Improvement Tax Deduction
3 September 2010 by admin
Categories: Home Improvement
When spring arrives many homeowners think about making some fixes and improvements to their houses. Before you begin hauling out the tools and buying supplies, you might want to find out if you’re eligible for a home improvement tax deduction. If you have no intent what that is, there are guidelines to use.
The first thing you need to know is the difference between a home repair and a home improvement. An simple way to comprehend it is that a home repair falls in the category of problem resolution. Fixing a hole in your roof, repairing a leak or painting a room are repairs. However, redoing your kitchen, adding a room or building a garage, or putting in a swimming pool, falls into the category of home improvements, which add value to the home.
Strict guidelines set forth by the Internal Revenue Service will explain how to claim a home improvement tax deduction. Before you begin any home improvement project, you are strongly advised to read these guidelines, and get some guidance from the local IRS or a tax consultant. There are several different groups that tax deductions can belong. Even a medical condition can be the cause of a home improvement tax deduction if things need to be permanently changed in the home to accommodate this condition.
Following Hurricane Katrina, a special tax deduction was implemented for the victims of that storm. Speak with the IRS to find out more about the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act. It adds to the granted limiting home improvement loans.
If there are areas of your home that need fixes but you’re planning improvements there as well, you might be healthy to claim the repair as an improvement. According to the Tax Act, a repair that occurs in the same part of the home being remodeled can be included as part of the home improvement project.
Homeowners can also take advantage of tax credits to save money. Where a tax deduction for improvements can decrease the income that the tax is payable, a tax credit decreases the tax itself. Tax credits can be had for various home improvements. You can find out more about these ways to save money through the numerous IRS publications acquirable for your use.

How to Look for the Right Home Accessories
31 August 2010 by admin
Categories: Decorating
Do you know how interior designers finish a home decoration project? They use accessories. This also the ideal money saver tip when redecorating. Unlike furniture, accessories do not have to be huge and expensive. In addition, a room will not look complete without accessories.
However, it is also important that you know how to pick the accessories to place in your house. You also have to know how to mix and match them. Another thing that you have to take into consideration is the suitability of the accessory for your home. You will want to refrain sharp and fragile objects if you have toddlers in the house.
Here are some helpful tips when shopping for home accessories:
1. Begin with a budget. This is very important. Accessories are the most affordable part of redecorating your house. However, homeowners have the tendency to go over the budget. They purchase the item even if it is not on their list. A budget will help you focus on the things needed for the room. It will also constraint you from over stuffing the room.
2. Draw a plan. A plan will make shopping a breeze. Once you have a plan you will know exactly what you are looking for. If you have some surround art ideas, you can draft it and think of the accessories that will go well with the artwork. If you have a light colored wall, you can use dark frames. Moreover, if you are using dark colored furniture, pick light colored accessories.
3. Select colors that match. Colors add life to any type of room, however, if you use too many colors in a room, it will look chaotic. When you enter the room, you do not know where to focus because of the tons of colors in it. If you are going to use colors in the room, make sure that it matches. The color wheel will help you pick out the colors that go well together.
4. It should go with your interiors too. If you have a traditional style, it would be ideal to get accessories that have traditional designs. You can break the rule by adding some modern design furniture but it should blend well with the room. An example would be a modernly designed candlestick with a rustic finish. It has a modern design but its rustic color grants it to go well with the traditional style.
5. Make sure that you have a space for the accessory. This is why you should have a plan. Many homeowners shop for accessories and purchase some because they think it is cute. They are unsure if there is a space for the accessory. When they reach home, they just place it in a corner because there is no space for it.
Shopping for home accessories is fun. However, you need a plan before you shop. Will it go well with your surround art ideas? How will you room look after you have organized everything? Accessories greatly affect the room, that is why you have to pick the right items.
