Kids Room Decorating Ideas – Build A Hide-A-Way
June 21, 2010 Categories: Decorating
When you are designing your child’s room it is always fun for them to be involved and get to help pick out different things like the color of paint for the walls. Have you ever thought about the wasted space you have that could be turned into a tiny hide-a-way for your son or daughter? It does not have to be real huge but to them it will be their own private space and they will spend a lot of time there playing and escaping into there on tiny world. Now you state where I am going to come up with this space without slicing down on the size of their bedroom. Your room decorating ideas might include ceilings that are taller than eight foot and if they do this project will work perfectly. Here is what you will need to do.
Project One
If your ceilings are at least ten foot tall when you build your closet have your builder leave and opening to the otherwise lost space above the closet. The inside will have to be completed out but just roughly not perfect. Now you can decide if you want the opening inside the closet or to enter from the outside. Frame out the opening with a tiny bit of trim molding to give it a completed look and a tiny harm attached to the surround and guess what, your child now has his own perfect private hide-a-way.
Project two
This hide-a-way project is for those of you who have eight foot ceilings. This children room decorating intent will take a tiny more planing but it will work. While your builder is building your home have him include a tiny space in the attic to finish out above your child’s bedroom. Once again it does not have to be very huge for a child to really enjoy. Have them finish out the opening with some trim molding for a completed look or if you wish you can trim it out yourself to save some money. CuttingĀ crown molding angles is the hardest part but you can do it with a tiny practice. Get some of the scrape pieces and practice slicing your angles. Now all you need to do is build them a tiny harm to get into their hide-a-way and they will be all set for a fun time in their new bedroom.
Note
If you do not feel innocuous with a harm built up the surround you might want to think about putting your opening at one end of the room and adding a small staircase up the side of the wall.
